Serving Greater Phoenix: Cleaning and Repairing Pools Since 2008 |
Call Now: (480) 907-0076
Desert nights in Phoenix cool off fast, even when the days stay hot for most of the year, and a pool heater that’s cycling out, tripping on error codes, or blowing cold water cuts your swim season short right when you’d expect to still be using it. Captain Pools repairs gas heaters and heat pumps for homeowners across Phoenix, from Arcadia and the Biltmore corridor to Ahwatukee and North Phoenix. Licensed under ROC #33666 and operating since 2008, we diagnose the actual fault before recommending a fix- no guesswork, no unnecessary part swaps.
Common issues include failed ignition control modules, faulty thermocouples or flame sensors, gas valve problems, and heat exchanger scale buildup from Phoenix’s hard water. Gas heaters heat fast but work harder when airflow or venting is restricted, so we check combustion airflow as part of every diagnostic.
Heat pumps pull ambient air to warm the water, which makes them efficient in Phoenix’s climate for most of the year, but that same design means compressor, refrigerant charge, defrost cycle, and fan motor issues are the typical culprits when a heat pump underperforms. We test refrigerant pressure and airflow before touching electrical components.
Whichever type you have, we start with a full diagnostic rather than assuming the fix, that’s what keeps repair costs down and avoids paying for parts you didn’t need.
We test ignition/compressor function, check error codes, inspect wiring and gas or refrigerant lines, and identify the root cause.
You’ll know the scope and get a quote before we touch a single part. No surprise charges.
If a repair no longer makes financial sense on an older unit, we’ll tell you honestly rather than patching it repeatedly.
We run the heater through a full cycle to confirm it’s holding temperature correctly before we consider the job done.
Operating in the Phoenix metro since 2008.
If your Hayward heater is still under manufacturer warranty, we can service it as an authorized provider.
From homeowners across the Phoenix area.
We identify the actual problem before recommending repairs, and we know how hard water scale and extreme seasonal cycling stress heaters here.

GOOD Based on 145 reviews Posted on Google Michael SkinnerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Back in January of this year, I had Captain Pools change out my old sand filter for a cartridge type filter and they did a very good job with that. Over the last couple of months though, I had noticed that the union fitting on top of the pump was leaking a little water during pump operation. Although I don't like ANY leaks, I kept putting it off. Several days ago I called Captain Pools and asked them if they could look at it. Anyway, they arrived today and discovered the fitting was just a little loose so it ended up being a very quick fix. I'm glad they were able to respond quickly to my request, diagnose the issue and fix the problem. I'll continue to use Captain Pools in the future for any problems that arise, and recommend their services for any pool work.Posted on Google Mike DickinsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This week I ordered a new vacuum and he set it up and installed it for me! Great weekly price and great service!Posted on Google Rosemary RaysorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have used Captain Pools for approximately 6 years, in addition to having them do a full refresh (decking, removal of an old water feature and adding pebble stone). We have been very happy with their service, their communications (i.e. if our technician is out sick or delayed, we are notified) and their fairness. I am able to trust if they tell me a part needs repair / replacement, and they take care of issues timely. Would absolutely recommend Captain Pools!Posted on Google Matt CavendishTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We have been a customer of Captain Pools for over 10 years—they are an amazing company. Nate the owner has been so helpful for my family from the start. Today we had out cartridge filters cleaned by Scott! Wow! Living in this dusty desert really takes a toll on mostly everything. Scott did an awesome job! He was super nice, especially to our little dog who ran outside. See the before and after phots below. Seeing is believing. Thank you again Scott and Captain Pools!Posted on Google Jeff GitlinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Lucas is amazing. Very helpful and knowledgeable about pools. Pool filter cleaning was well priced and efficient. Additionally, the tech showed me how to set my valves for spa mode along with regular daily settings. He also answered a few other questions that I had along with some general tips and tricks for pool maintenance. Have been using Captain Pools for 2 pools weekly for the last few years, only good things to say.Posted on Google Connie JamesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have had Captain Pools service my pool for 2 years. I have had other companies that lied, did not answer calls, and were very unprofessional. I am completely happy with Captain Pools. They go above and beyond. Prices are very fair Connie James
It depends on the make, model, and specific fault. We provide a written quote after diagnosing the actual problem, we don’t estimate over the phone since heater issues vary widely.
Most diagnostic visits and straightforward repairs (ignition control, sensors, thermostat) are completed same-day. Repairs requiring a special-order part may take longer, and we’ll tell you upfront if that’s the case.
It depends on the age, the cost of the repair, and the unit’s overall condition. We’ll give you an honest read on whether repair or replacement makes more financial sense rather than defaulting to whichever is more profitable for us.
Yes. We service all major residential brands and are an authorized Hayward warranty station, so Hayward owners under warranty can have work done through us directly.
This is one of the most common calls we get. It can point to a failed thermostat, a sensor giving a false reading, low gas pressure, or, on heat pumps, a refrigerant or compressor issue. It needs an in-person diagnostic to pin down.
Yes. Phoenix’s hard water contributes to scale buildup inside the heat exchanger over time, which reduces heating efficiency and can eventually cause damage if untreated. Regular maintenance helps prevent this.
If your pool heater isn’t performing the way it should, don’t let it go until it fails. Call Captain Pools at (480) 907-0076 or request a free quote online, and we’ll get a technician out to diagnose the issue.
